A Comprehensive Course to Become a Transplant Doula
As a member, you get lifetime access to the community and the Transplant Doula core course. The course has 9 modules and is regularly updated to stay relevant and provide you with the latest in the transplant world. We encourage you to revisit the material whenever an update is released.
The Role of the Transplant Doula
We explore the role of a transplant doula: what it can include, what it doesn’t include, and what it means for the transplant landscape.
Organ Transplantation & Donation
Everything you need to know about solid organ transplantation. This includes history, a bit of biology, and the general transplant team structure. We’ll also discuss details of cadaver organ donation, living organ donors, and awareness.
Pre-Transplant
When someone learns they need an organ transplant, their world changes. This module will teach you all about transplant candidacy, considerations for center research, developing medication plans, finances, and other factors that will play into your clients’ experience.
Waiting for Transplant
Doulas can be of huge support while waiting for a transplant—like navigating the shifts in habits, routines, and lifestyle changes, preparing for practicalities, and understanding possible challenges.
The Transplant
Learn what a doula can, should, and should not do in supporting pre-op, surgery, and post-op. We’ll explore various matters that can arise with family, common complications patients face, and best practices for navigating hospital matters.
Post-Transplant
Once the transplant is complete, life shifts significantly. Learn how doulas can support with support team management, medication and compliance matters, and general home follow up care.
Rumble with Mortality
Medical directives, end-of-life planning, and the organization of life affairs is one aspect of support doulas can provide transplant patients and living organ donors while they wait for a transplant—but there’s so much to review, it’s gotten its own module!
Care for the Caregiver
Your client’s primary caregiver is navigating their own journey throughout this event—some of which might even echo the patient’s journey. Learn how to care to the caregiver: things to be mindful of, and more.
Building Bridges
This module aims to provide alternative language that better serves families while partnering with policymakers in hospitals, transplant centers, clinics, and care facilities to create effective, accurate, and family-friendly policies. It shares insight to being a valued part of the transplant team.
