Statement on Certifications
The Transplant Doula™ is pioneering an entirely new use for doula support. The concept of a transplant doula did not exist before our launch in December of 2022, and we are the first and only program of its kind.
So naturally, we’ve set the bar exceptionally high with the quality of work, care, attention, and research we’ve poured into developing our training, because we feel passionate about the idea of transplant doulas showing up in service to those who need it. However, it’s important that members and the public understand that there are currently no certifying bodies for transplant doula professionals, nor is there an established standard of education in the field. While we do offer an in-house completion package (which includes a certificate and the honorary right to call yourself a certified Transplant Doula™) and that communicates a certain degree of accomplishment and qualification, it is not required to practice as a transplant doula.
The Transplant Doula™ is an advocate for the recognition of transplant doulas as members of the patient transplant team. We understand the responsibility we’ve taken on by introducing the concept of transplant doulas to the medical world—and we’re working hard to not only create standardized education and competencies to prepare those interested in professionally supporting the patient journey, but to see that recognition bloom in a cross-section of industries.
